It's hard to believe it's been a year, but Blog Action Day is back already, and the theme this year is The Power of We.
If you look at local TV news, at least here in the United States, you're confronted with a litany of everything that's wrong in the world -- crime, disease, death, corruption. It can be depressing to say the least. And when you really stop to think about it, there are few social problems that can actually be eradicated or solved. One of my Campaigns teams is working with Project Safe, which addresses the problem of domestic violence, and it occurs to me sometimes that for every person who's helped, there are so many others who aren't and so many future violators being created.
But that doesn't stop people from trying. I found a list of nonprofit organizations in my area and am amazed by the array of problems that people, often volunteers, are spending their time and resources trying to ameliorate. It inspires me how many people believe it's better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
It that's how you feel, I urge you to find a worthy organization in your location and do what you can to support it -- donate, attend events, give your time, share your expertise. (If you can't find a list of local nonprofits, check out the link above for inspiration.) The fact is, it's astonishing what people together can accomplish.
